The Regent Square Memorial was originally unveiled in Regent Square Salford in 1918 and is inscribed:

"TO MEN OF THE REGENT SQUARE DISTRICT WHO ANSWERED THE CALL OF KING AND COUNTRY IN THE WAR FOR THE WORLDS FREEDOM"

The memorial is now sited at the
 City of Salford (Ordsall)
 Royal British Legion
Robert Hall Street
Salford

I became interested in the memorial after discovering that I had four great uncles commemorated on the column having served during WW1. After many months of research I was happy to see that all four survived the Great War and began to ponder the fate of the other men inscribed. In an attempt to find out more about these brave men I have created this site. It is believed that the front of the memorial is inscribed with those that died during WW1 and the other three sides are the men that served. As the memorial was unveiled before the end of the war and the Commonwealth Grave Commission  recognises deaths after 1918 (up to 31st August 1921) there are men who will be moved from "served" to "killed in action".

To get the project started I have begun to research the men inscribed on the front of the memorial, the men believed to have died 1914 -1918. This has not been easy due to the condition of the memorial and errors of inscription i.e. There is a Nierpoint who should be a Pierpoint a Doid who (as far has been established) should be a Doig etc..

This is where you can help!

If you have any information regarding the men named on the memorial please use the "Contact Me" button and send me an email, no details are to trivial. Please let me know if you  believe any information contained on this site are incorrect.

News:
If you are visiting the memorial please be aware that the bottom three stones have been laid incorrectly and are not as originally placed in 1918.

I have added a link to a map of the Regent Square area for 1905 see the link in HISTORY
